Continuing Education (Basic , Intermediate and Paramedic Level)

All levels of EMTs are initially certified upon successful completion of the Massachusetts exam process. Following the initial certification period, each level of EMT must renew their certification every two years. One component needed for recertification is mandatory attendance to training scope applicable continuing education sessions. Recertification requirements for each level are described below: 

EMT-Basic DOT level:  EMT-Basic Refresher Course (minimum 24 hours); 28 additional hours of approved EMT basic level recertification credit classes, and current BLS-CPR credential in order to staff an ambulance.

 

EMT-Intermediate DOT level: EMT-Intermediate Refresher Course (minimum 36 hours); 28 additional hours of approved EMT-Intermediate level recertification credit classes, and current BLS-CPR credential in order to staff an ambulance.

  

EMT-Paramedic DOT level: EMT-Paramedic Refresher Course (minimum 48 hours); 25 additional hours of approved EMT-Paramedic level recertification credit classes; Biennial recertification in ACLS and current BLS-CPR credential in order to staff an ambulance.
